Youth

“Although age distribution is only one demographic variable in the complexities of social and political life, the large presence of youth in Arab countries is a crucial reality conditioning the region’s political, economic, social and cultural development”

Arab Human Development Report 2016

Sixth in the series, the report focuses on youth and the prospects for human development in a changing reality. The report argues that Arab states can achieve a huge developmental leap and ensure durable stability if they put the empowerment of their youth at the top of their priorities and harness their potential to advance development processes.

Towards this goal, UNDP has launched regional initiatives to tap into the youth potential in the region to drive positive change in their communities and ensure their meaningful participation in decisions that affect their future:

Youth Leadership Programme (YLP)

The YLP was launched in 2015 as an initiative to build the region’s most dynamic network, working at the intersection of youth, innovation and sustainable development. Now in its 6th edition, the programme has worked with over 20,000 youth participants and 80 youth-serving organizations in 18 countries in the Arab region and supported the design of around 7,000 projects that address local development challenges. Find out more
